Hoboken is the easiest place in the region for me to reach: one light-rail stop or a walk along the river from Jersey City. The city packs an unusual mix into a square mile, with founders coming out of Stevens, a dense strip of restaurants and retail along Washington Street, and a large population of people who work in Manhattan finance and want to build something of their own on the side.
